Why being a Resolution member matters

Family courts are currently experiencing significant delays and limited resources. This can leave families waiting for decisions at an already difficult time.

There are alternatives to lengthy court proceedings.

A more constructive approach is possible.

Divorce is rarely straightforward. Public perception is often shaped by media coverage of high-profile cases, which does not reflect most people's experience.

Many assume divorce is always contentious and damaging, particularly for children. In reality, court should be a last resort. Other options are available that can reduce stress, cost, and conflict.

Litigation is sometimes necessary, but many families could avoid court with the right support and guidance.

Guided by a Code that puts families first

Resolution is an organisation of over 6,500 family justice professionals who support families to resolve matters constructively.

Resolution members follow a Code of Practice that encourages constructive solutions and keeps the best interests of children central.

The Code sets out principles for a non-confrontational approach to family matters and guides our work.

Where possible, we help clients resolve issues outside court; this gives families more control and often leads to quicker outcomes.

The Code is a practical guide for working with clients and colleagues.

  • We avoid inflammatory language

  • We support and encourage families to put the best interests of children first

  • We act with honesty, integrity and objectivity

  • We help clients consider the long-term emotional and financial impact of their decisions

  • We promote communication and collaboration wherever possible

  • We use experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them
