Howard is a Partner and Barrister specialising in employment law. He has over 20 years of experience helping clients with workplace issues so that they can focus on their business.
Qualified as a barrister, Howard advises clients ranging from owner-managed enterprises and professional practices to international businesses and individuals. He is registered with the Bar Council for public access work, so he can be instructed directly without a solicitor.
Howard advises on all aspects of the employment relationship, from recruitment and selection through to its conclusion. One of the features he enjoys about his role is getting to know his clients' businesses so he can work with them to achieve the best outcome.
As a barrister, he is also able to handle employment tribunal and court claims if they reach this stage, advising on appropriate tactics and acting as an advocate. His unique role and experience enable him to handle matters from the outset, eliminating the need to hire additional outside counsel.
The relationship between employers and employees extends beyond pure employment law. As well as advising on procedures for dealing with staff, such as transfers, maternity leave, redundancy, disciplinary and grievances, Howard also advises on other aspects such as data protection, boardroom issues, employee ownership, contract workers and employment status.
Howard also represents individuals in senior positions, advising them on new contracts, post-termination restrictions, boardroom issues and severance negotiations.
Clients describe Howard as "what you want from an employment lawyer". With his pragmatic approach, he seeks commercial solutions for clients and provides training on current topics to help employers manage their workplaces effectively.
